About Brighton MI
Located in Livingston County, Brighton is a small city in southeast Michigan and part of the greater Detroit metropolitan area. Its population is just under 8,000 people, although the surrounding Brighton area is considerably larger. One of the city’s most recognizable geographic features is the Brighton Mill Pond, located directly next to downtown and surrounded by walking paths, parks and community gathering spaces.
Brighton was established in 1832, incorporated as a village in 1867 and became a city in 1928. Today, the city is best known for its historic and walkable downtown, which features local restaurants, boutiques, shops and year-round community events. The Mill Pond, Brighton Amphitheater and nearby Mt. Brighton are some of the area’s most recognizable attractions, while Brighton Recreation Area provides thousands of acres of lakes, trails and outdoor recreation just outside the city.
