Robert has a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Michigan and is licensed by the State of Michigan as a Licensed Social Worker. Robert’s therapeutic approach varies with each client and he emphasizes an integrative or holistic approach to therapy and leverages several therapeutic modalities such as:
Psychoanalysis where he focuses on helping the client change problematic behaviors, feelings, and thoughts by examining their unconscious meanings and motivations. This approach examines past environmental/social events that may have had an influence on present circumstances.
Behavior therapy where he focuses on helping the client develop appropriate behaviors using classical and operant conditioning to help shape behaviors, and desensitizing to help the client face problematic issues.
Cognitive therapy where he focuses on helping the client reframe thoughts that influence behaviors, and lead to dysfunctional emotions or behaviors.
Gestalt therapy where he focuses on helping the client become aware of their circumstances and accepting responsibility for their self and circumstances.
Robert’s clinical specialties include the treatment of depression, anxiety, bipolar affective disorder, borderline personality disorder, PTSD, physical disabilities, grief and loss, personal development, life coaching, career and executive coaching, communication issues, health coaching, anger management, LGBT issues, sexual therapy, couples issues, geriatrics, hospice and end of life planning, group therapy, and spiritual counseling. Robert has spent many years researching chronic diseases and is a multi-published author on the subject of living with chronic diseases, and has acquired an expertise in Fibromyalgia, chronic illnesses, and chronic pain conditions.
Robert has had success helping many people with chronic disease reverse many of their symptoms focusing on a biopsychosocial approach to wellness. Robert will help you learn to partner with their condition and make the necessary lifestyle changes and live a vibrant life with disease. Since 2009, Robert has volunteered as a fibromyalgia and disability advocate, health coach, and disease researcher. Robert is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Robert earned a bachelor’s degree in business management, and a master’s degree in business administration and spent 15 years in the construction industry as a builder and an executive. Robert lives with his wife and their 20 year old daughter.
