Sometimes we all need someone to talk to. Everyone could use therapy as therapy is much like exercise for the mind. We could all use someone to listen, someone to challenge us, and someone to explore and seek to understand without judging beliefs or feelings as good or bad.
Clients come in with many different needs, some want an unbiased voice to speak with, some want to vent their feelings, and some seek guidance when they feel stuck or out of place.
I work to be a therapist where all these needs can be met and I strive to help my clients piece their puzzles together.
I’ve spent the majority of my professional career working with juveniles age 11-17, which included mentorship programs through MSU, as well as a resident supervisor at Ingham Juvenile Detention Facility. My work as a professional therapist has crossed all ages and has included treating personality disorders, anxiety, depression, substance use issues, relationships, family dynamics, and more. I received my Masters in Social Work at MSU where I specialized in addictions studies.
I believe each client is looking for something different and therefore my style of treatment differs between clients. Approaches I use include a person-centered approach (the client is the expert), CBT methods, DBT methods, Behavioral, psychodynamic, and of course a mindfulness approach!
Therapy is like a puzzle. The client has all the pieces and together it is easier to put the puzzle together. The process is collaborative, I believe in it, and therapy is cool!
