Akira Scott

Hi, my name is Akira Scott. I am an LLMSW. I am a firm believer that "Even when you are tired you should reset and rest but never give up". Practicing Self care has allowed me to help others and myself when I need to put things in perspective. Therapy is beneficial to everyone who needs assistance in self-defeating behaviors. I bring a holistic approach to my clients by implementing mindfulness and embracing self-worth into each session. My objective is to work with you to create a sense of self regulation and effective coping skills. My goal is to allow you to have a voice in how you receive my assistance. Therapy isn't a chore but a brave choice. Let's be brave together!

I have worked with adolescents ages 5-18 years of age for the past 4 years in a school setting and juvenile detention setting. In 2018, I began giving therapy and grievance services to inmates in Wayne County Jails. Most of my "young adult "clients at Wayne County Jail had lack of and no direct therapy services in grade school. This experience allowed me to have an interest in prevention and community outreach services. Therefore, I earned my bachelor's degree in social work at Eastern Michigan University with a concentration in working with youth and families. I wanted to connect resources and counseling services to the underserved population in urban community schools. Bringing social emotional awareness and a holistic therapeutic approach to adolescents can improve their interpersonal skills, and overall well being. After years of being an advocate for children I knew Social work and counseling was my passion. I am now a proud graduate of Wayne State University earning my Masters in social work, with a concentration in interpersonal practice, specializing in CBT ( cognitive behavior therapy ) and psychodynamic therapy.

In addition to working as a psychotherapist with Sollars and Associates, I am also an elementary and middle school social worker in Detroit Schools. I pride myself on being my client's advocate while bringing a sense of empathy and mindfulness to their experience.
