Medication Management

Medications are used for a variety of reasons. Whether to treat an existing diagnosis or taken for preventative maintenance, many doctors find medications to be useful in helping their patients lead fuller lives. Mental health care professionals may develop a treatment plan that includes the use of medications. These may be either medical or psychiatric in nature and can be an integral part of a client’s overall well being. Drug therapy may be used to treat a variety of physical ailments and psychological diagnoses. Medication provides a second treatment modality in addition to working one-on-one with your therapist. Please see our page under the “services” tab for more information about psychiatric evaluations and medical consultation.

We will coordinate with your psychiatrist and/or medical professional to manage your medication regimen. Through your signed release of information form, your therapist can discuss relative information, whether psychological, biological or social in nature, with your doctor to develop and maintain your medication routine. Through coordinated care, health care professionals can determine if the drug is addressing what it is meant to address, if the dosage is appropriate and if the side effects are manageable. It is important to note that some psychiatric medications may cause suicidal thoughts. If you are experiencing this side effect, please contact the doctor who prescribed the medication immediately and seek professional psychological services. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please call 1-800-273-8255.

At Sollars, we endorse the use of psychotherapy and if necessary medication simultaneously to increase the probability of a successful out come to treatment. If you feel you would like or need medication in addition to psychotherapy, please call Sollars and Associates.
